Message from Dr. Barber

Dear Parents,
I am delighted to be back to school after having my 2nd daughter, Charley Drew.  Charley Drew was born on August 20, yes, just a few days after the 1st day of school this year!    I have enjoyed reading to the students in their classrooms this week as I get to hug familiar faces and meet new friends!
As we begin the second nine weeks, we look forward to many anticipated events at Pontiac Elementary School.  We celebrate American Education Week November 14-18.  Consider visiting your child’s classroom this week to see what your student’s day is like at PES!  Enjoy a lunch in our cafeteria if you would like as well!  We look forward to your visit during American Education Week!
We hope you will join us for several events we have planned!
On the evening of November 14, our Technology Learning Coach will host a technology night.  Learn more about how to set up a Parent Portal account as well as Internet Safety for your young child.  This event will be held at 6pm in the school computer lab.
On Tuesday morning from 7:30am-8am, we will host Pastries for Parents in our school courtyard.  Please come to school with your child and enjoy breakfast together.  We appreciate you, parents!  Thank you for supporting Pontiac Elementary!
On Thursday, November 17 we invite all of you to our School Improvement Council meeting that begins at 7:45am.  Each month, a group of parents comes together to discuss school improvements to ensure we continue to improve here at PES so it is a great place for our students to learn.
We hope you will join us for Math Night on Thursday evening beginning at 6pm.  Our math committee has worked hard planning various math stations for you and your child!
Thanksgiving holidays begin on November 23 and we wish all of our students and their families a wonderful, restful Thanksgiving.  Students return to school on Monday, November 28.
Parents, we encourage you to be involved at Pontiac!

Please remember to check your student’s grades on a regular basis.  This can be done through Parent Portal.  If you need assistance with setting up an account, please contact our school office.
Thank you for your continued support.
