Dr. Barber’s Blurb
  Parents,
I can’t believe how quickly September has flown by this year!  We are off to a great start!  We hope all of you were able to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher this week.  We often say that you are a partner in your child’s education.
As many of you know, Pontiac has an open door policy when it comes to visiting         classrooms.  We encourage you to visit your child in his/her classroom.  You are          always welcome!  We do ask, however, that you refrain from bringing siblings to the classrooms when you are observing your student.  Younger siblings tend to interrupt the teaching and learning process.  We also suggest that you keep these classroom  observations to 30 minutes at a time.  This provides you with a quality observation of your child in his/her classroom without distracting the other students from the learning process.
As we dive into October, please remember that school attendance and success in school are directly related.  According to our school board policy, JH, “The board        expects each student to attend his/her assigned school every day, for the entire school day, except in cases of illness or other reasons specifically stated in this        policy.”  When students arrive late and are tardy to class, this not only interferes with their learning but it is also disruptive to the students in the classroom. Instruction  begins for our students at 8:10am.  Students who arrive after 8:10am are marked tardy and parents are expected to sign in their child in the main office.  Each student who is tardy will receive a tardy pass.  Because we are committed to providing the very best educational experience for your child, we need your continued support on a daily basis.  Having your child arrive at school on time and remain for the duration of the day will assist us in helping your child be successful.
Equally important is having your child remain in the classroom until dismissal.            Teaching and learning continues until 2:35pm.  When a parent signs a child out early, the child is missing essential concepts necessary for success in school.  Parents who wish to sign out a student early must do so before 2:15pm.  This ensures that safety and security are a top priority for our office staff during dismissal each afternoon.
Thank you for your continued support of Pontiac Elementary!
